Ripl is a fun-filled, proudly independent ‘hard seltzer’ based in Brookvale on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We were asked to create the brand from scratch — name, identity, packaging and promotional material.

Challenge

In 2020 the summer-seltzer craze landed in Sydney. Driven by hugely successful sales in the US, hard seltzers were set to be the official drink of the summer — and the market quickly became saturated with competing brands.

We were challenged to create a brand that would stand apart whilst following in the footsteps of its parent brand 7th Day Brewery.

Dive-in and splash about

To stand-out we decided to target a slightly more sophisticated audience to your conventional hard seltzer fan — providing a refreshing alternative. Through the use of fun illustration and detailed design we created a brand and tone of voice that acts as an invitation to pick up a Ripl and enjoy.

The Ripl Effect

Ripl is owned and operated by the 7th Day Brewery who actively support their local community — from the start it was clear that the Ripl brand would follow in their footsteps.

Having supported the Waves For Water (W4W) organisation over the years Ripl takes this relationship further by promoting their work and donating proceeds from each can sold.

This position was also instrumental in the brand creation — from the name, brand design style and even the flavours which are all based on locations that W4W operate.

Design Elements


The brand design style and illustrations set the tone with a series of characters diving into oversized glasses. This combined with sophisticated typography, a soft colour palette and supporting illustrations made up the core elements of the brand.

Getting Social

A website and social media platforms took the brand design online, using rich textural imagery, lifestyle shots and supporting brand and event details.

A fun, vibrant brand identity was created that position the brand as a refreshing alternative. Since its launch the brand has seen continuous increase in sales within the brewery and through online sales.
